Dendrobium lindleyi     Steud.

 

Early Record

First described by W. Roxburg (1832) in Flora Indica as D. aggregatum. However, the name has been used for a South American species. Steudel (1840) rename it as D. lindleyi.

Distribution

S. E. Asia. From Myanmar, east to Southern China, and south to Peninsular Thailand.

Habitat

300 – 1000m altitude.

Description

Stem 3-8cm long, each bearing a single leathery leaf 5-16cm long. Inflorescence produced from near the apex of the stem, pendulous, with 5-15 flowers. Flower light to bright yellow, with golden-yellow lip, 3cm wide, fragrant.

Cultivation

D. lindleyi requires a cool and dry winter to stimulate the formation of flower buds.
