Topic: The Sin Nature, Part II
Scriptures: Romans 6:12-17
Sunday, July 17, 2005
Message Delivery: Rev. Caleb Williams
Notes provided by: Sis. Christine Powell/Sis. Jackie Knox

We were born into the sin nature because of the fall of Adam and Eve. Not only does the sin nature exist within unbelievers but also within believers but meant to be dormant and noncontrolling. It will always be there as long as we have these bodies or until we are rid of the flesh (death). As long as we are alive we cannot get rid of the sin nature, but we can live victoriously over it.

A. We have the capacity to not allow the sin nature to have dominion or control over us. (Romans 8:22-23)

B. In order to have victory over the sin nature, we must realize that:
1. The physical body is just an instrument that can be used for righteousness or unrighteousness. (Romans 6:12-13)
a. Our physical body is not at fault for what we do but rather our sin nature.
b. To deny the existence of the sin nature is deceiving yourself. (I John 1:8)
c. Our victory is not in what we do or do not do but in how we believe.
2. Our physical body (sin nature) is not yet redeemed and will not be redeemed until the resurrection when our bodies will be glorified. (I Corinthians 15:51-53)
3. The only way to perpetuate over the sin nature is to (Luke 9:23) deny self and take up the cross.

C. Our victory over the sin nature is not in saying what we won't do, but in employing what God has empowered us with. (I Corinthians 1:17-20)
