Topic: Christians Scriptures: Acts 2 Wednesday, August 10 & 17, 2005 Message Delivery: Rev. Caleb Williams Notes provided by: Sis. Jackie Knox
A. The Spirit-filled Christian is:
1. Dedicated - seen in us loving God.
2. Devoted
3. Determined
a. Your testimony keeps you determined because it helps confirm the workings of God in others' lives. In this way, God uses your testimony to help others as well as yourself. (Acts 20, Galatians 6:9)
b. Be determined with your testing; problems don't have to win over you.
B. None of us are capable of living this life on our own. Despite the fact that we won't give things up God still extends grace unto us. What pleases God is when we yield to Him. We must believe and have faith in His mercy and promises. (James 5:10-11)
C. Looking back at Job, we realize that the Christian life is not one without trials. With everything the Lord allows us to go through, there's a lesson to be learned. So instead of complaining, yield to the Holy Spirit because these trials come as a direct result of our unyielding. Yield because He has already won the battle for us.
D. God knows His children by the Spirit and His children hear His voice through the Spirit. There are times God wants to speak to you; so you must be receptive and sensitive to Him. It is His goal to be able to talk to you directly. (I Corinthians 2:9-16)
E. When we submit to God's order (conversion), we are supposed to abandon the way of the world. The battle with the flesh that we try to fight with our own strength we can never win until we submit to the Spirit. The flesh pulls on us because it knows it has only death to look forward to in the future, but the Spirit inside of us and our souls live forever.
F. When we are tempted, it is not our flesh that is attacked but our faith. (James 1:12-14) You can't stop the presentation of temptation, but you can stop accepting it and yielding to it.
