ZipAnywhere(Standard Edition) FAQ 1. Open an existing Zip files? Basically you have four ways to open an existing zip files: 1. Click Open… under File menu. A dialog box will show up. Select one zip file and click the open button. 2. Click the open icon on the tool bar. The dialog box will show up as above. 3. If you have recently opened the file, go to the File menu and check if the file name listed under it or not. If it is listed, just click the menu item and the file will be opened immediately. 4. Use the built-in file explorer that lists only the directories and zip files. Click one zip file in the explorer, the zip file will be opened in the right window right away. 2. Get information about an opened zip file? Go to the File menu and click the “Archive Property….” A dialog with the overall information about the zip file will show up. You can also get some information, such as how many files archived and how many bytes totally inside the zip file, on the bottom status bar on right window. 3. Extract a Zip file? You can extract a Zip file after you have opened it. To extract it, you need to highlight the files you want to extract from the Zip file, and click the right button, or click the extract menu under Action, or click on the extract icon on the tool bar. There are several options you can select from the dialog box: 4. File selection Option You can select “Only Selected Files” or “All Files”. The default selection is first one. If you select the second one, you will lose the selection. There are also two extracting options: “Overwrite Existing Files” will let program overwrite the files on the disk without asking you, otherwise it asks user specifically for each overwriting. “Keep Directory Names” will keep the directory information in the zip file and create new directory when necessary. 5. Add new files and/or directories to a Zip Files? You can right click the button on the right window, or click the toolbar, or select the Add menu. From the dialog box, you can select any files and directories into the current zip file. ZipAnywhere will automatically retrieve the subdirectories until all files if you select any directory. 6. Delete files from a Zip file? First you need to select the file(s) that you want to delete, then right click the mouse on the right window, or click the toolbar, or select the Add menu. A confirmation dialog box will show up asking whether you really want to delete it. 7. Create a new Zip file? When you want to create a new file, you can either select the New menu from File menu, or click the tool bar. A dialog box will show up asking the new zip file name. After you give a name, a second dialog box comes up asking you which files to be added into this new zip file. 8. View a file inside a Zip file? First select the file you want to preview. Remember only one file should be select. If you select several files, only the first one will be viewed. Then right click the mouse and select view in the popup menu, or click the tool bar. 9. Set the default viewer for unknown file type? Go to the default viewer menu under option menu. Further go to its submenus, select one of them. 10. Show/hide the details of a zipped file? Just go the option menu and select the show/hide column menu item. All the column name will appear as the sub menus with check box before each column name. If the check box is selected, the column shows. Otherwise it will hide. 11. Sort the files in a Zip file? The easiest way to sort the files is to click the header of the table in the right window. A small arrow will show up after you click. The order of the sorting will change if you click the column header again. The other two ways are to use the popup menu and the sort menu under the action menu. 12. How to show/hide file system viewer? Select the show/hide columns in the Option menu and further go to its submenu, where you can click any checkable menu item to show or hide the column. 13. How to change the order of the zipped file details? Just go the header of the column you want to move, and press you mouse down and hold it, then drag it to a new place and release the mouse button. You can change the order of the details as you want. But the order will not be saved when you exit this application. 14. How to change the background and foreground color? Select the color menu under option menu. It further goes to the background and foreground color menu, select one, and a color dialog box will come up. Choose the color you want and click OK. Remember, do not choose similar color for background and foreground, otherwise you can not see clearly the text in the window.
