Compost
Compost is easy to make.  You will need a small area of yard or garden (about 2 feet x 2 feet).  Pick a spot that is away from your windows if possible, 'cause compost smells on hot days.  To make things neater, and to keep the dog out of your compost, block off your compost area from the rest of your yard with pallets or a fence.

Now that you have your compost area, get a container to keep in your kitchen.  It should be relatively small, leak-proof, and easy to carry.  You can cut one side out of a plastic milk jug (the side opposite the handle; leave the handle on so you can carry your compostables with it).  Every time you eat or cook, throw your natural kitchen garbage in the container;  This includes  fruit, vegetables,  coffee grounds, and eggshells.  At least once a day (or else it will start to smell) take your container out to the compost area and throw your natural kichen garbage in.  Do this every day and you will notice that the garbage starts to break down naturally.  About once a month (except in winter, unless you live in a place thats warm year round) take a stick/shovel/board/whatever and stir the pile of compost to mix it up.  In a month or two, depending on the weather, you should have some fresh organic dirt to throw on your garden or windowboxes.  This dirt will be full of nutrients for plants and act like a natural fertilizer.
