"...Part 2 of Film Ist traces the origins of feature and documentary
film to fun fairs and variety shows, examining early cinema in its social context
as entertainment and propaganda, and charting its transformation into more "cinematic"
modes of expression. He developed an novel way of structuring the film - by
creating musical themes in parallel to the film editing process.Handling around
100 film clips from 1890s to 1920s with great editorial alacrity, he demonstrates
the full force of montage. The images compiled, some cloudy or scratched, others
sharp and vivid, are all gorgeously tinted and toned. A cornucopian catalogue

The history of film resembles the thought of human during the last 100 and some years. When you looked back to the scenes and set up in the past, you will suddenly find that the crux of people's thought can be so consistent and continuous from time to time. It's good to look back before we put another step forward to the unknown future, be it peace or war. (6/10)
