Ford's 3 Godfathers, the creator of Perfect Blue transposes the desert locale
to Shinjuku's cardboard city. The discovery of a dumpster baby on Christmas Eve
sets off three homeless bums (an alcoholic ex-bicycle-racer, a turbaned transvestite
and a runaway teenage girl) on a mystical journey filled with serendipitous adventures
that lead to their redemption in the gilded, heartless metropolis. The Tokyo cityscape,
rendered with stencil-like precision and needlecraft finesse, in grungily gorgeous
indigo, olive and auburn, almost steals the limelight. A feel-good ode to the
Yuletide spirit with a heart as big as Chaplin and Capra, suitable for all seasons..."
