comedy about nomenclature and fowl fetish is too weird and wonderful to fit into
any Old World mould. On her 27th birthday, divorcee Silvia Prieto packs in her
job, buys a canary, and journeys to Mar del Plata. There, desire to hook up with
another Silvia Prieto in the phone book grows into an obsession. A few plot twists
later, she gets a roomful of Silvia Prietos. Being John Malkovich this is not,
but its theme: the dissolution of a personality, is tied in with identity crisis
in a country where, to quote Pico Iyer, "unsettledness is almost native to
