<<Interpol live @ the Zenith>> 21/04/2005
The Newyorker, Interpol , played last Thurs at the Zenith in Paris, and they appeared like a stardom band on the stage. Resembling quite a lot, though every time they deny, the sound of Joy Division or the other post punk group, it's to my unconsciousness that the band played a tribute to the sound of Joy Division . The show was full house, but it just lacked a bit the intimacy to their music. The band was capable of playing stable and outstanding live music, but they lack a sense of the glamourous of a great band. The most exciting part of the concert was the 'encore' session, and they convinced the listeners under the stage that they could be such a rockable band. Gorgeous tunes that I believe would belong to their to-be-produced third album. Thanks for the visit!...(7/10)

<<LCD Soundsystem live @ Elysee Monmartre>> 20/04/2005
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah...this was a great night with the music of LCD Soundsystem ...... they played at Elysee Monmartre, a cozy venue with more than 1,000 spectators. Their music is what I called 'rhythm music'. You would find the beat and rtythm in their songs the skeleton and this is why you could see the 3 out of the 5-man-band played on the drum just at the same time!! James Murphy , the frontman of the band, is a pleasant vocalist with a nice and riotic voice. So it is not difficult to imagine how the atmosphere would be at their concert. Definitely, ' daft punk is playing at my house' was the first climax of the night. Their baseline was just so vibrant that shaked everyone under the stage. ' too much love ' and ' give it up ' were nice tunes. The band finished the tune with the tribute of drumline of the Joy Division ! ' Never as tired as when i'm waking up ' was one of the best songs in the evening. It carried a smell of punk funk that was the vodka for the dancefloor. All in all, 'Yeah' became the anthem for LCD Soundsystem. Simply a word of 'yeah' could unbeliveably generate the great energy from the audience...(8/10)

<<frances the mute>> the mars volta, 2005, universal records
A step even closer to the 70's progressive rock. The mars volta devotes themselves totally into the architecture of Yes or the King Crimson this time. Their second album is composed of music elements of different kinds. Cygnus...vismund cygnus is a full demonstration of their musical world having a detailed design of rollarcoasting music. The drumming of the band is a full retro to the 70's giants. Inserting other elements and the adequate electronical sound, the album is yet too old-fashioned. The widow is more a sentimental tune featuring the soulful electric guitar sound. L'via l'viaquez is an astonishing piece having short sessions of music paragraph from the Bassa Nova rtythm to Buenas Vista Social Club-bing or Marilyn Manson like mouring. Apparently, this is the formula for the band to vitalise the progressive rock. But except the mars volta, what is still so special for Prog Rock in the 21st century? When you hear longer their new album, you find that you are getting older too... (7.5/10)

<<guero>> beck, 2005, interscope records
Beck may want to remind us that he has been a talented song writer and hype icon, and his album has been proposed purposefully to resemble his sound in his previous work of Mellow Gold or Odelay. E-Pro is a welcoming first tune to recall his good time in the past. Que onda guero is much like some tunes in Odelay, and it's a hippy tune. Girl contains much the sentiment of the Carifornia blues. An easy going beat. Missing continues the mood of casa nova and possesses a lovely song of the present Beck. From this album, the songs are full of variations and when you listen to Earthquake Weather, you will find again the rhythmic beats merge with the soulful sound of Beck. Definitely this is again an attempt to recatch his sound in the first two successful albums. Hell Yes is again the product of his merging of the casanova beat and his own rapping tune. Broken Drum, on the other hand, is more like his last piece of the quiet moody work. After you have heard of the record, you may think that it's better to hear again the Mellow Gold... (7/10)

<<tank>> asian dub foundation, 2005, emi
ADF, a never-let-you-down group, released their new album in 2005, and continue to be a racial speaker, they produced a stunning album which forces you to stand by their end and motivate by their tunes. Apparently they are putting more effort in reinforcing their music element in thei songs, and so the album becomes more complete and pleasant to hear to... (8/10)

<<I was born (in prehistoric Spain)>> anthony reynolds, 2004, moonpalace
The latest mini-album from Anthony Reynold (or former Jack) released by Moonpalace. Still much sounds like the Jack in la belle et la discotheque or Romantic Nois 123. This 7 songs are sentimental touches of Anthony without really any surprise to be frank. The best out of the album would be Blues for Pablo Escobar. If you want some new tunes from him, here you go, but if you are still fancy of any new sound of him, it is sorry, and at least not this time... (5/10)

<<what you left behind>> hollowblue, 2004, moonpalace ...
Hollowblue is a new band from Moonpalace records, and they introduce themselves by the impressive mini-album of moody tunes. Featuring in the album, 'What you left behind' is quite a beautiful song, and the voice of Gianluca resembles that of David Sylvian, and this may also be the reason why the song constructs a strong mood of the blues, and the piano sound is perfect! Anthony Reynold appears in 'Io bevo', and it's about the drinking world. A feeling like Jack's tune, nice piece. 'Baker' starts with the guitar sound of Radiohead's 'Talk Show Host', and again, it's a light lounge-music type of tune alike of the moonpalace's sound. 'Days of wintry hill' is another sing-along music with impressive violin interlude. Not only because the band has invited Anthony to feature in the mini-album, but the band also contains a strong character in sound that is similar to Jack's music. 'Triplex sin' is a song that makes me correlate again the 2 bands, esp. the singing style of Gianluca. ... (8/10)

<<push the button>> by the chemical brothers
, 2005, virgin records
Chemical Brothers is one of the groups which has the ability to change the music trend in the world. After their innovative albums in the 90's, their recent albums are consolidation of their music thoughts and they invite music of different origins and nature to join their electronica world. Annotating the prelude of the new album 'push the button' is the extension of sitar stardust, galvanize, it is fansinating to have their electronic music added with the force of the Middle East instrument elements and the sitar sound. A powerful return of the music couple. 'The boxer', on the other hand, introduces their good partner, Tim Burgess of the Chalatans, and well, Tim is getting more and more soulful now. It's like a kaelioscope of soul and electronica. 'Believe' is the brother of galvanize, but laying with an even more groovy bassline and rtythm. 'Hold tight London' is cool with the addition of live instruments, but it's more like their works in the last album. 'Come inside' , again, corresponds to power of the group. The turnaround in the middle is like a tribute to the sound effect of the kung fu films...'left right' is an interesting tune, and the voice of Anwar put the music of Chemical Brothers to those of Enmenim or Wu Tang Clan. 'Close your eyes' compares the nice tunes of the Smashing Pumpkins before, and can't imagine that the group can go together with the Heavenly Voices... (8.5/10)

<<Garbage live at Paris Olympia >> by Garbage
'She is so fine', and they are so fine too... this is the debut concert taking place in Paris tonight for their new World Tour after their 2-year rest. This is Garbage, a ten year old band. This is one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. The band has been recharged and they come back this time in full with more powerful sound and motion. Fueled with their new bassist, the sound of 5-man Garbage is enriched with more layer and distortion. They played quite some old songs in their previous albums like She is so fine ; I am only happy when it rains ; Queer etc. The sound effect and lighting was excellent for the Show, and afterall, the band was energetic to regain the power of live! Garbage played some new songs from their to-be-released album and these songs immerge more a feeling of the grunge sound or the power rockabelie. The new song they played during the encore section is just so 'wing'...their new album is much to be expected. See how Butch Vig and the`band touch the heart of the audience again. BTW, Shirley Manson is really a frontman having her unique charisma. COOOOOL! (9.5/10)

<<lcd soundsystem>> by lcd soundsystem, 2005, dfa records
Is this a "great release" as the band says? Lcd soundsystem finally released their debut album in the beginning of 2005, and this is after the rise of DFA dancing funk era. The band did not disappointed all the followers. This is an album of underworld meets the daft punk and the rapture. An exciting journey of the dance beats and humourous lyrics and music. This is the manifesto of lcd soundsystem. The bonus tracks of the album are also worth-listening. Their once upon a time anthem "beat connection" fully illustrates their music dimension. "Give it up" is another dancing floor master. I look forward to their live in Paris again in mid April...(7.5/10)

<<The lamb lies down on boardway>> performed by the musical box
, 2005 @ Strasbourg Palais des Congres
The musical box replayed the mythical musical of the Genesis in 1974. This is a tribute to the guru by the band now in 2005. Compared with the original play, the musical box adopted most of the original idea of Genesis and attempted to visual effect by the addition of photo slide. This produced a real 70's mood of the era of progressive psychedelic rock. The application of the space on the stage and lighting was also appreciable. It's a lively experience to immerge again in the music of the gold old days. It's amazing when it is to imgaine again hoz legendary the scene would be when the Genesis played the songs 30 years before. However, when everything is just too alike to the past now at this moment, it's rather old-fashion and one has no deny that the time has gone... (5/10)

<<Music for films - landscape in the mist; the bookkeeper; vogage to Cythera>> by Eleni Karaindrou, 1991, ECM records
This is a compilation of the work of Eleni Karaindrou in three films of Theo Angelopoulos. Sensational moments of a landscape of the film, and it outlines a misty beauty of the world of Angelopoulos. It is a really special experience when you play the soundtracks in a dizzy day in Paris in January... (9/10)
