Further to the 26 stamps of the 7th Definitive set released on Nov.
15, 2000, South Africa Post added 6 additional values bearing butterflies
in response to the postage hike effective from May 14. The new stamps fulfil
a need for new international rates including R1,60; R1,90; R2,10; R2,50;
R7,00 and R14 values. Designed by Chris van Rooyen and Thea Swanepoel,
the stamps depict a variety of colourful butterflies that are found in
South Africa: Yellow Pansy (junonia hierta cebrene) - R1,60; Large-spotted
Acraea (acraea zetes) - R1,90 stamp; Koppie Charaxes or Koppie
Emperor (charaxes jasius saturnus) - R2,10; Common Grass Yellow
or Lowveld Yellow (eurema hecabe solifera) - R2,50; African Monarch
or Southern Milkweed Butterfly (danaus chrysippus aegyptius) - R7
and Lilac Tip (colotis celimene amina) - R14. The stamps sized 26
x 35,4 mm, and are available in sheet of 10.
