On 2 January 2002, following the introduction of the euro for postage,
Netherland Post issued eight new Queen Beatrix stamps, two business stamps
and one supplementary stamp.
The Queen Beatrix stamps, each available in self-adhesive booklet of 5, bear the denomination of € 0,25; € 0,39; € 0,40; € 0,50; € 0,65; € 0,78; € 1,00; € 3,00. The design of the new stamps shows a portrait of H.M. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and is based on Peter Struycken’s original design from 1981 but with a stylish new look, due to the fact that the portrait and typography are printed in two different colours. The two business stamps, valued €0.39 and €0.78 respectively were designed by Mieke Gerritzen. She chose blue and aubergine as 'neutral, business-like colours', which make a striking and attractive combination with gold and silver. The arrows in the design symbolise the communication flows in the business world. An arrow shows the way, and the arrow in the stamp point in two directions, representing two-way communication and exchange. They also symbolise economic activity in all its forms. The stamps are abailable in coils of 100. Supplementary stamp valued € 0.12 and issued in booklet of 5.
