To celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, Royal Mail reissued
the 1st class Machin definitive stamp in gold on 5 June.The stamps are
self-adhesive in books of 6 (printed by Questa and Walsall) and books of
12 (printed by Walsall). These will be the first Royal Mail booklets with
the 'matrix' (ie, the paper surrounding the stamps) removed.
The gold-coloured definitives were previously issued on 21 April 1997 in ordinary adhesive in celebration of Her Majesty's Golden Wedding Anniversary. On that occasion the denominations were 1st class (printed by Harrison & Co and Walsall Security Print) and 26p (printed by Harrisons only). In 1997 the gold stamps were eventually replaced when the 1st class stamp reverted to its orange colour. Scotland Stamps. Also on 5 June, a new printing of Scotland 1st & 2nd class stamps will be issued, printed by De La Rue. Previous printings were by Walsall. |
