2002.06.18      Israel Building & Historic Sites - Hatsar Kinneret
The Kinneret farm is mostly identified with the Second Aliyah (second wave of immigration to Israel), Hatsar Kinneret was founded at a time of heightened Zionist political activity and was the first settlement to be established by the Zionist Movement. Hatsar Kinneret was unique in that it was the center of the inception of many groups and such as the kibbutz, moshav, the Hagana defense organization, "Hamashbir" "Tnuva" etc. Training was started at Hatsair Kineret and the first groups of settlers of Deganya, Kinneret, Ein Harod, Nahalal, Afikim; Ein Gev and Ma'agan were formed.

History of development:

1905 - purchase of land from Umm Junie.
1908 - Dr. Arthur Rupin establishes a worker's farm at Kinneret under the management of the agronomist Berman. The Kinneret village is founded.
1909 - the farm land is divided between the farm and Umm Junie's land.
1910 - Kibbutz Deganya Alef is founded.
1911 - The Hana Meisel Agricultural School for Girls is established, Rahel Bluwstein (Rahel the poetess) was one of the students.
1912 - arrival of group of immigrants from Yemen..
1913 - Kibbutz Kinneret is founded.
1920 - the "Hagana" Is founded.
Until 1940 Hatsar Kinneret was the center for the pioneer settlers of the Kibbutzim in the Jordan valley.
Until 1974 Hatsar Kinneret was used as a mi1itary base and then was abandoned.
In recent years restoration and preservation work has been done on the site.

The Council for the Preservation of Buildings and Historic Sites

The Council for Preservation of Building & Historic Sites is a public organization acting within the Nature Protection Society and was established in 1984 by the Knesset Education Committee. The Council acts to prevent destruction of sites and buildings; initiates and encourages preservation and development plans, imparts educational values stressing the importance of preserving constructed heritage in Eretz Israel as part of its cultural history and increases public awareness of the need for preservation.

The Council operates a number of sites; the Miqwe Yisrael Visitors Center, the Atlit Illegal Immigrant Camp, the Ayalon Institute at Givat Ha'kibbutzim In Rehovot, the David Ben Gurion Training Center in Segera, the Woman Fighter site in Nitzanim and the workers camp in Sedom, It is partner to the renovation of hundreds of additional sites, approximately one hundred of them serving as visitors centers and historical museums open to the general public.
