2002.09.20   South Africa 7th Definitive Series Additional Values
Six new values additional to the seventh definitive series released on 20th September and highlight the beauty of some of South Africa's moths. The values reflected on the moth stamps are R1,80; R2,20; R2,80; R3,00; R9,00 and R16,00. Two official commemorative envelopes complete the set. The moths depicted on the stamps are:

R1,80  Cabbage tree emperor moth (Bunaea alcinoe) – 
Emperor moths, Saturniidae, are characterised by large wings and distinctive "eye-spots" on both fore- and hind wings. The name "cabbage tree emperor moth" is derived from the fact that its caterpillars have a preference for cabbage trees (Cussonia), where they can be found during December.

R2,20  False tiger moth (Heraclia superba) – 
Belongs to the family Noctuidae. The wings are usually brightly coloured in shades of yellow and red or black; or yellow and white. The body is slender with long, thin feelers.

R2,80  Snouted tiger moth (Aganais speciosa subretracta) – 
Tiger moths belong to the family Hypsidae, a large and diverse family. It has brown forewings displaying orange-yellow, white and black markings. The hind wings are mainly orange.

R3,00  Pearl moth (Pardomima sp) – 
Belongs to the family Pyralidae. The wings are usually mottled brown or orange, some are pure white. The forewing is narrower than the hind wing. The legs are long and slender.

R9,00  Peach moth (Egybolus vaillantina) – 
Belongs to the family Noctuidae. It is a day-flying moth with shiny blue-black wings, it occurs particularly in tropical lowlands and on coastal plains.

R16,00  Moon moth (Argema mimosae) – 
Moon moths, an exceptionally beautiful species, belong to the family Satuniidae. The quite large adults are delicately green in colour and have hind wings with long twisted tails.
