2004.02.23  Poland Polish Towns Series, Lublin
Next city presented in the issue set "Polish Towns" is Lublin. The city is picturesquely situated on the Lublin upland, in the valley of the river Bystrzyca. The city is considered as one of the most beautiful towns in Poland because of the beauty of its original architectural monuments, rich history and the ambiancy of a city situated on a borderland of cultures and religions. 

The post stamp presenting Lublin was introduced into circulation on the "eve" of an important event - the entering of Poland to the European Union. For the inhabitants of the city, proud of the fact that it is precisely in Lublin that in year 1569 has been concluded the Lublin Union it will be also a beautiful crowning of the motto "From Lublin Union to European Union". 

The elaborated by the artist Andrzej Gosik project of the design of the post stamp refers to the Polish - Lithuanian Union. On the first plan is presented a fragment of the Lublin Union monument. The obelisk has been erected in 1826 at the initiative of Stanislaw Staszic. An important element of the monument is the gold bass-relief carved by Pawel Malinski, which present the allegory of the Republic of Both Nations : Polish Kingdom and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, in the shape of two women joining their hands in a friendly handshake. 

On the second plan there is a fragment of the Lublin Castle, where during the session of the diet /sejm/ 1569 the king had meetings with the deputies and here took place the ceremony of vowing of the Lublin Union. 

On the going with the stamp FDC is presented a fragment of the polychromy that decorate the castle chapel. 

On the day of introduction of the stamp into circulation at the Post Office Lublin 1, will be in use a special cancellation on which has been shown the bezoar goat /the symbol of human aspiration to sublime things/ from the oldest existing seal of the town.
