Sutivan is among the smallest Local Community's in Croatia. Only 600 people live permanently in town of Sutivan, although in the summer season, with tourists and house owners from Croatia the number reach the 2000 people. In beginning, after the reconstruction of former Community of Brač, Sutivan was under the chastity of Milna Community, but later on , it gain the status of independent Community. City Council has 20 people, and City government counts 11 people. City Major from 1997. is Mr. Petar Vladislavić. Sutivan is the place of unique urban characteristics, mostly because of influence of nearby Town of Split, but also because of the culture of former citizens, who build the Middle European spirit in it, which one can feel in beauty of ancient houses and in architectural and urban structure, that makes him very special on the Island Brač and wider in Dalmatia.
In the last decade before the War for independence , Sutivan economy was mostly based on tourism, and the town suffered a great lost and crises in last ten years. Recently, it slowly raises again and is catching the development of other Island Community's in economy.
Never the less, the greatest Sutivan treasure where people, and with their work and activities, this little town will soon take over it's position on this Island in the past, as in tourism and gastronomy, in other segments of human living as economy and culture too, which makes it the valuable place for the vacation, and permanent living.
