Normally, in my music listening, the one area of Christian music I stay away from is the "Gospel" section. In theory, all Christian music can be considered Gospel music; in general practice, though, it refers to Black Gospel, Southern Gospel, and Inspirational. So, when I was told that a group called Selah was making a big splash in Christian music with their inspirational sound, I dismissed the group as not having a style I would like. However, I got a copy of their sophomore project, Press On, to confirm my theory of not liking Gospel music.

Boy, did Selah prove my theory wrong.

I received Press On over a week ago, and I'm still listening to it constantly. Selah's trademark stamp of resurrecting old hymns and making them into something for the church at large again is phenomenal. The simplicity of the project does not make the project simple; rather, it makes the album something that will be easy to listen to a hundred years from now.

The best tracks on this project are the ones that are almost a capella. "Oh Draw Me Lord" is a perfect example of this. The track begins a capella, then obtains a piano and strings in the background. Though the lyrics are extremely repetitive, with three of the four lines being the same four words (Oh draw me Lord), Selah manages to sing the song with so much passion and energy, that you might not realize that they keep singing the same chorus.

Other excellent tracks on this project include: "Amazing Grace," "Hold On," and "There Is A Fountain," though the whole project almost boasts excellence. Be sure that you get this project as soon as possible, so you can experience the wonder of Selah.
