When a teen pop CD releases, it's usually good for about one week. Afterwards, it gets bland and uninteresting.
If this is true, then why am I still listening to ZOEgirl's album Life? Four months after its release, I still find myself listening to this CD at least once a week. What did ZOEgirl do to make this album so great? Easy. They made it different.
To understand what I have said, first, listen to ZOEgirl's 2000 debut. Light dance pop with a lot of keyboards and mechanical vocals are descriptions that come to mind. Then pop in Life The album showcases a brand new face for ZOEgirl. Urban grooves. Organic vocals. Powerful ballads. Guitars. Incredible lyrics. All of this and more define Life.
The first track, "With All Of My Heart," has a new sort of attitude - an attitude of worship. "Even If," with its Euro-influenced pop style, is a whirlwind of emotions. If you want a CCM song or two reminiscent of Britney Spears' "I'm A Slave 4 U," then "Dismissed" and "R U Sure About That?" are what you are looking for. Both songs are dance pop songs with a ton of attitude.
"Ordinary Day" is a song that reminds me of a song from Janet Jackson's All For You album. "Waiting," "Plain," "Forever 17," and "The Truth" are the ballads of the album, and they carry the most emotion of the whole album. "Nick Of Time" has a strong bass line, and is heavily drenched in R&B. "Here And Now" reminds me of Rebecca St. James' "Stand." Both songs are encouragerments to stand and be one.
If you are looking for the best teen pop CD, do yourself a favor and get Life.
