I'm a N&NPacker, but I seem to have developed Valentinish tendencies... ...oh, yeah, usual disclaimers - the characters aren't mine, but the story is. I am not making any money off this. If anyone would like to archive it, they are welcome to. Here goes! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Precinct Pool Party by Jan Wiles Lacroix listened at the window a moment, then eased it open and entered the darkened apartment. He was greeted by a hiss that seemed to come from under one of the dining room chairs. "Hush, cat. I'm just looking for something." he said absently to Sidney. He'd been unable to resist the impulse, ever since he'd heard that snippet of conversation between Nick and Natalie earlier at the loft. "I can't believe you did that to me!" Nick had wailed. "Believe it, pal. And you'd better be very nice to me. Remember, I still have the videotape!" Natalie had smiled sweetly, then left. He went over to the VCR and began searching the stacks of videotapes. Close to the top of the pile was one hand-labeled "Precinct Pool Party ". That had to be it. **** He popped the tape in, and started it. It was apparently being held at some local health spa or other fancy club, and during the evening, too. He watched, bored, as various personnel from Nick's precinct arrived, collected food and drink, and began to chat. Suddenly, some shouting was heard from off-camera. He sat up and paid attention, aware that two of the voices belonged to Nick and Natalie. Natalie marched on-screen, headed for the pool area. Following her were most of the female members of the precinct, who all had Nick hoisted over their heads. "Nat, I'm sorry! Really I am! I didn't mean it THAT way!!!" Nick protested, struggling. Obviously, if he resisted strenuously enough to get away from that many people, someone would be hurt, or he'd show his vampiric powers. "Forget it, buster! If you're gonna act like a male chauvinist pig, you're gonna get what's coming to you!!" Natalie responded, not slowing her pace one iota. Reese and the other male officers watched, wide-eyed, as the procession vanished into the pool area. Voices could be heard somewhat, not really identifiable, but the listeners could guess. "OK, ladies, all together now! ONE...TWO...THREE!" "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" Cheering erupted, then the group of women exited the pool area wearing smirks. Natalie's grin was the biggest. "That'll teach him to talk that way..." she said. "Yeah," responded Tracy. "You'd swear he's from the Middle Ages sometimes, the way he talks!" Natalie flashed her a nervous glance, then laughed. "Maybe he'll think twice about doing it again...". Once they were out of sight, Reese edged over to the pool's glass door and peered through. A grin appeared on his face as he announced, "Yep, he's in the pool all right. Oooh, that face would sour a whole tanker truck-full of milk!" Laughter erupted from the others. "I wonder what he said?" mused one. "Maybe we can get him to tell us later?" "Don't worry," answered Reese with a smirk. "I'll just order him to tell me." Talk moved on to other things for a few minutes, then everyone fell silent, staring off-camera towards the men's locker room door. Nick slunk across the room, clad only in a towel. "They stole my clothes," was all he could mumble. **** Lacroix was laughing so hard the blood-tears were running down his cheeks. He grabbed a Kleenex to blot them. Really, that infuriating son of his deserved this! He was so distracted that he failed to notice the sound of the key in the door. "Enjoying yourself?" Natalie said unexpectedly. He looked up expecting her to be angry, but instead saw the same satisfied grin that she'd worn on the tape. With vampiric speed, he was beside her, hugging her, laughing. "Yes, Doctor, very much so, thank you!" She was very startled at first, but couldn't help giggling a little herself. "Well, he deserved it, you know!" she said somewhat nervously. "You must tell me now...just what did he say to set this off?" Natalie could not stop laughing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So - whatcha think?
