The Problem with Popplers

Jrr the Omicronian Landing on a seemingly deserted planet, Fry, Leela and Bender find ditches full of delicious snacks. They stuff the ship full of them and introduce them to their friends. Fry decides to call them Popplers, one of the only two unregistered names. Bender and Fry sell them on the street, and are approached by the owner of Fishy Joe's, an enourmous fast food franchise. Popplers are sold by the billion, and hippies protest against them. Leela finds out that they are intelligent creatures when one calls her 'Mama', and the crew starts a crusade against them. No-one pays any attention until the Omicronians appear during a debate on TV and reveal that popplers are in fact their young. They say they will eat one human for every poppler eaten. This number turns out to be 198 billion, and there aren't that many humans. Lrr fills up on nuts at the negotiation, so he agrees to eat only one human, the one who first ate popplers: Leela. Zapp plans to pretend an ape is Leela, which almost works, as the Omicronians cannot tell one human from another. The hippy bursts in and saves the ape, ruining the plan. Jrr, the alien that called Leela Mama, comes in and tells his parents not to kill Leela, as she is is friend. Lrr eats the hippy instead and everyone is happy.

Quotes:

Fry: I hate going to the planet of the moochers! They take you out to dinner, but when the check comes, their wallet's always in their other pants. Which they borrowed from me! (The camera pans out to show Fry wearing no pants)

Fry: Leela! That's the second billboard you've crashed into this week!

Hippy: You shouldn't eat anything that can feel pain!
(Bender throes a brick at him)
Hippy: Ow!
Bender: OK, we won't eat you.
Leela: I'll get more bricks.

Leela: Popplers are intelligent! This one called me 'Mommy'!
Zoidberg: Congratulations! I assume Amy's the father?

Farnsworth: There's only one way to tell if an animal is intelligent - disect it's brain!
Jrr: No! Mama, stop Grandpa!
(Everyone gasps)
Farnsworth: (sharpening a scalpel) Enough chit-chat! Restrain the specimen!

Zapp: Why'd you open your bong hole you smelly hippy? You'd sacrifice a beautiful woman to save a moderately attractive monkey?

Lrr: People of Earth... woah, that hippie's starting to kick in... we've all learned a valuable lesson today... dude, my hands are huge. They can touch anything but themselves... (touches his hands together). Oh, wait.

Seen Around the Future

Bender's apron says 'Heil to the Chef'.

Signs that the hippies are holding:
Popplers are peoplers too!
Eating is murder!

Fishy Joe's has served 3.8 X 1015 popplers.

The sign outside the negotiation says 'United forces against welcome the Omicronian menace'.

Leela wears a billboard saying 'Free the popplers' and the Fishy Joe's guy wears one saying 'Free popplers'.

The song that Fry and Bender sing:
Pop a poppler in your mouth when you come come to Fishy Joe's,
What they're made of is a mystery, where they come from no-one knows,
You can pick 'em, you can lick 'em, you can chew 'em, you can stick 'em,
If you promise not to sue us you can shove one up your nose!
