The Sting

Giant Space Bee The professor isn't allowing his crew to go on a mission to collect honey from giant space bees, the thing that killed his last crew, on the grounds that thay aren't good enough. Leela wants to go anyway, and Fry and Bender come reluctantly. Bender is painted like a bee and has a bee language catridge, so they manage to get to the honey deposit. Leela finds a cute baby queen and decides to take it for honey. Bender mistakenly insults the Queen Bee, and they are chased out of the hive. They escape, but the baby queen wakes up and attacks them. Its stinger goes through Fry and scratches Leela, killing Fry. At his funeral, Leela feels extremely guilty about it, and later decides to take some space honey to ease the pain. It sends her to sleep, and she dreams of Fry telling her that there's a gift in his locker. She wakes up, and it turns out that there actually was. No-one believes her, and they think she's going crazy. Later, she has another dream, where Fry takes her on a romantic trip and gives her his jacket. She wakes up with it on, but it turns into her own when she gets to PE. The lines between her dreams and reality start to blur, and she becomes more and more insane, seeing the crew perform a bizarre musical number and finding Fry alive in his coffin. She decides that she is only happy in dreams, and she decides to take three spoonfuls of space honey. This will send her into a permanent coma. A portrait of Fry talks to her, telling her to wake up. In a hospital, Fry is by Leela's bedside telling her to wake up. She does, and they reunite emotionally. It turns out that Leela has been in a coma, as the bees sting went through Fry, only poisoning her. Fry had been by her bedside for two weeks.

Quotes:

Leela: What's the mission?
Professor: Collecting honey. Ordinary honey.
Leela: That doesn't sound so dangerous.
Professor: This is no ordinary honey!

Professor: These bees are larger than most Buicks. And twice as ugly.

Priest: It may comfort you to know that his death lasted only 15 seconds. Yet the pain was so intense, that it felt to him like 15 years. And it goes without saying, it caused him to empty his bowels.

Professor: Of course he still exists - as a frozen corpse in outer space! (He laughs) ...oh, I made myself sad.

Leela: Oh, Fry, you must be alive. I've never neen treated so romantically by my own imagination before.

Leela: I am not under stress, dammit!

Fry: Why am I sticky and naked? Did I miss something fun?

Leela: I'll find Fry's coffin, get his corpse, and keep it under my matress to remind me that he's really dead. That'll prove I'm not insane.
