How to skin

So you've been playing Black & White for a while now and you're getting bored with the way your creature looks.
He's to normal, isn't scary enough, looks to purple and fluffy or he looks just fine but you think you have an idea to improve him.
Well only one thing to do right, you start making your own skin.

Now there are a few things you will need for this:
  • A copy of Black and White

  • B&W skin utility

  • Some sort of graphics program like Adobe Photoshop

  • Winzip

  • Well let's start,
Go to the folder Black and White/data/creature mesh!
In this file you will find creatures which are named like this: A_Bear_Boned_base.L3D.
This is the neutral bear skin, for the evil bear skin find the file which is almost the same except base will be replaced by evil, the same goes for the good skin.
Copy every file here and put them in an other, empty, folder, this will be your back-up folder.

Now download and unzip the B&W skin utility so that it will be in your creature mesh folder.
You can only edit the good, evil and neutral skins. Skins such as strong and fat cannot be used!
Drag the 'BW skin utility' to the skin you want to edit.

Now the skinn which normally has the extension .L3d will have .tga as extension.

When you open this file it will load itself in a graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop, I'm not sure in which other programs it will/can load itself but you should try.
If it doesn't load at all you need to get a bettter/different graphics program.

Now you'll have the skin opened, it's ready for you to edit. You'll see parts with legs, arms, the head etc in the picture.
Go and do your thing. Color away, follow your instinct... make a different skin.

To get the skin back in the game, again drag the B&W skin utility to the skin you just edited. This should be the one with the .tga extension.
After you do this go to play Black and White and look at the creature you just changed. If the creature has an alignment that you changed you will see your new skin. Congratulations!

One more thing which is important. If after you're done skinning you want the original skins back, get your back-up folder and copy every file in there again (or just the ones you changed if you can remember those) and put them back in the creature mesh folder. They will overwrite your skins but that's good.
Now when you load up the game you will have the original skins again.

Now you know how to skin. If you at a time would like to show you creation to the rest of the world please show it here. I would be very thankfull.
