I live in Philadelphia, so I don't have a chance to visit the National Zoo as often as I would like to. Usually, I only visit two or three times a year.
Whenever I visit, I take as many photos as possible. Sometimes, my son asks me why I take so many of the same animal.
I have several reasons, all of which are good, I think. Unfortunately, one of them is that I never know when the photos I take will be the last ones I will have a chance to take of that particular animal.
In the past year, many of my favorite animals at several different zoos have died, in spite of the good care they have received. Two of them were these beautiful giraffes at the National Zoo, who died just seven months apart.

Their baby, who has grown a lot since I took this photo, and who was almost full grown when her mother died, is still at the zoo.
But I wish I had had a chance to take more photos of the older pair.
