Nival's
story begins like a lot of peoples. He was born in Greyhawk City to Drammel and
Tabitha. Drammel was a local merchant who made a fair living for himself and
his family. He worked hard, and was very glad to finally have a son to carry
on the family name and business. Soon, he would come to realize that his
hopes were not to be realized. Nival was a strange child, far to interested
with books and knowledge, and less interested with money and hard work.
Drammel was not one to give up so easily. On
the great Day of Choosing, where masters choose there apprentices, Drammel
was going to select Nival, and force him to earn his keep. Nival had other
plans, and hatched them on that fateful day. Before Drammel got a chance to
the podium, Nattalis stepped up and called Nival to his side. Nival was
exstatic. Drammel was furious, and spent a night in prison for it. Nival's
training began at once, and it was nothing like he expected. It was hard. The
day-to-day work of the wizard fell to Nival to get completed. He was a
handyman, a maid, and a doormar all at the same time. The knowledge of the arcane
came in snippets when he had time to read. For three years this went on,
until one day Nival found a small ring of no real significance. This
ring, it turns out, was a ring of wondrous power, able to grant a single wish
to anyone willing, or foolish, enough to wish for what they desired. Not
knowing what it was, Nival wore it for a few days, thinking it perhaps a ring
of luck. Then he ran into an elf named [Name of elf]. At this time, all of
the arcane power Nival could wield were a few very simple spells. Nothing
like [name of elf]. During one of Nival's many arduous tasks during the day,
he came across two men in a duel against [name of elf]. [name of elf]'s grasp
of the arcane amazed Nival, because his master was so stingy with the art.
Nival had never seen such a display. It was then that he uttered the fateful
words "I wish I was just like him." The rest, as they say, is history... |
