Tight But Loose comments: The gig was in event a private party sponsored by Molson Canadian Beer - 200 prize draw winners from Canada were flown in and were joined by 25 UK prize winners. The rest of us got the word the day before the gig! I guess that there were about 500 people there in total. No tickets - instead a very nice laminated VIP pass which we all wore proudly (Scan on the website shortly). After imbibing free Molson beer, we wandered into the hall - with 15 minutes to go it was almost empty! It was a totally surreal experience; people were hanging around, chatting, wandering about - and there was no pre-gig pile up down the front - was anyone interested in the band? The venue can best be described as a small school hall - 15 yards by 15 yards with a small upstairs area.
Having strolled down to the front, us hospitable Brits set about chatting up our Canadian guests - many were fans but admitted they'd never seen the band before live.
On stage a cut down PA (with burning joss-sticks taped to the side!) and a very modest light show awaited us, I was close enough to see the small "zoSo" ensignia on Jimmy's Vox AC30. No cameras, no gimmicks - and no intro music. Lights out and there's Page strolling on followed by the rest of the band.
Conclusion: This was Zep in your school hall!! LOUD, SIMPLE, DYNAMIC, SURPRISING. It really was a blast! - And we got more free beer afterwards and Michael Lee popped into the bar for a chat!
Being so close to the stage added an extra dimension to the concert - embarrassing as it may seem after my accolades about Shepherds Bush in March, this is probably the best show I've seen by these guys. I doubt it will ever be topped. But you never know.....
