Egypt, Day Four
(click here to read my journal entry for today)
the sun fully between the mountains in the distance ok, I know this is the 4th picture of the sunrise, but can you blame me?--it was gorgeous!
The sun popped up right between two mountains, reminding me of the temple design at Edfu
we woke up to this scene this morning, looking across the Nile to the other side...
the two twin obelisks that lie in the center of the 102-acre temple
one of the standing figures of Rameses II inside the temple a shot of some of the massive columns inside the temple walls...there were 134 of them in total!
The view of the massive temple of Karnak, from the front entry
one of the statues which was disfigured into the shape of a cross by early Christians
a closer view of one of the obelisks, built to be "fingers to heaven"
the temple had a roof and windows originally
a lot of color still remains on many of the walls and columns that make up the temple
the temple of Luxor at night
me, Jeff and Bolls on the street full of sphinxes leading up to the temple
statues of the royal family just inside the entrance
a view of the temple grounds from the back side
one of the rows of columns which lines the main courtyard
another view of one of the giant statues of Rameses
one of the twin seated statues of Rameses at the entrance to the temple
the obelisk in front of the temple at Luxor
a last shot of the entrance to the temple
the huge head out front...
the standing figures of Rameses inside the temple walls
some of our bunch inside the temple
a shot of the group enjoying the beautiful day on the top deck
human-top-boy spun around for like 10 minutes straight, it was pretty ridiculous, yet equally hilarious
I know this picture is totally random, but you have to see this guy to believe it...
I guess the ancient Egyptians weren't big into showing teeth when they smiled...
