Norton Ghost Backup Diskette Instructions

Steps for creating a Norton Ghost Backup Bootable Diskette:

  1. Click this link -- Download Norton Ghost Backup Diskette
  2. When the "File Download" dialog box appears, click on "Save".
  3. When the "Save As" dialog box appears:
    - Select "Desktop" as the save location.
    - In the "Filename" field, change the filename to "ghostdsk.exe" instead of "ghostdsk.zip".
  4. Click "Save".
  5. Once it's finished downloading, locate the file "ghostdsk.exe" on your desktop and double-click on it.
  6. When Winzip opens up with a dialogue box for unzipping the files, in the "Extract To" box put in "C:\TEMP" if it's not automatically there.
  7. Check the box entitled "Recreate Subdirectories" (if it's available).
  8. Click on the box entitled "Extract" or "Unzip".

  9. If a dialog box pops up and asks, "Create C:\TEMP directory?" answer "YES".
  10. The diskette creator utility should launch itself automatically, but if it doesn't:
    - Using Windows Explorer, find the file entitled "MAKEGHST.BAT" and double-click on it, OR
    - Go to a DOS prompt, type "CD C:\TEMP" (or the directory where you download the files) and then run: "MAKEGHST"
    - (Be sure to put a blank floppy in the drive). This will create the Norton Ghost Backup diskette.
  11. When you've finished creating the Ghost Boot disk, copy all of the files from the "A:\GHOST" directory on your floppy to a "GHOST" directory on either your C: or D: drive (preferable to use D: or any drive after that).
  12. Note: The serial number for the Ghost Program is: F7B41FA9BBC0
