From a contemporary news report: April 12, 1995
A graduate of Fort Zumwalt High School believed to have
been killed by her husband will be buried today at
Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

She was Kim Ruby Roman, 36, and was serving in
the Navy. She graduated from high school in 1978.

Roman, a radioman petty officer first class,
and her husband, Juan A. Roman, were found fatally shot April 3 at their
home on the Naval Amphibious Base at Virginia Beach, Va. Kim Roman
had served in the Navy for about 16 years after graduating from the high school.

Authorities said that the husband had shot his
wife to death and then killed himself because of marital problems, The
Associated Press reported. The slayings are being investigated by the Naval
Criminal Investigative Service, according to a Navy spokeswoman.

Kim Roman was on leave from the Navy Communications
Detachment at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Her husband and their
two children, a daughter, 11, and a son, 5, had returned earlier to the United States
when families of military and naval personnel were removed
from Guantanamo to make room for Cuban refugees.

The bodies were found by Virginia Beach police
and Navy investigators after the two children returned from
school and found the home locked. Neighbors then called authorities.

Kim Roman's parents are Dennis and
Janice Ruby of Fredericksburg, Virginia. They declined to
be interviewed for this story.

The Romans' children are staying with relatives.
