GRAVE OF EUGENE MIDDLETON

Eugene Middleton was a prominent Globe pioneer. In October 1889 he was asked to "ride shotgun" for the stagecoach that was taking the Apache Kid to prison. Near Ripsey Wash, south of the Pinal Mountains, the Kid escaped, and Middleton was wounded. He was wounded in the neck and could not close his eyes. He walked and crawled about three miles back to the stage station at Riverside (the station can still be seen) and acquired help. He returned to Globe and became a prominent businessman.
