PINAL MOUNTAINS 2

Pinal 2

The Pinal Mountains looking up Ice House Canyon. On the night of 4 June 1870 Lieutenant Howard Cushing led a cavalry troop down this canyon to a sleeping camp of Apaches located at the bottom. All of the Apaches were killed, including women and children. This episode is located in John Gregory Bourke's book On the Border with Crook. For a long time the exact location was unknown, but I have identified it positively (a person has to know the geography around here pretty well).
