One thing that always happens with this car is that the heater levers break off of the control unit in the dashboard. You have to pull all this crap out to get the assembly out. I bought a slightly different version from an older model from Peter for 100 bucks, which I kind of regret now because, a: it's not stock, b: it doesn't light up as brightly, and c: it cost a hundred bucks and I'm probably going to open it up again to have original levers reattached. Whatever. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. My greatest victory was finding the little lever cap doo-dads at a pick-and-pull in Hayward and slipping them on the levers. Details, details.
Details indeed. It's all very nice to fix these things, but deep inside the engine, a chronic problem kept nagging me. Blue smoke puffed out the tailpipe when I idled in traffic. I think that's what got me into the situation I'm in now . . .
