Hiccup

A mild 'hiccup' occurring around 65-70 mph had me scratchin my head for some time trying to diagnose what was causing it. I thought perhaps it was the throttle linkage, which I cleaned and lubed, but it wasn't. I found some evidence in newsgroups on the internet that it might be the throttle position sensor. This is a rheostat attached to the throttle intake butterfly valve that acts much like an accellerator pump does in a carbureted engine- it squirts extra gas when the driver pushes the pedal, giving a quick boost of power. I bought one not exactly sure that it was the problem, but opening up the old sensor made me suspect that it was the culprit.

Driving the car with the new sensor installed made me certain.
