STANDING, STILL

Richard Daniels performed during the 70s with several small ballet and modern companies. Economics, injuries and curiosity propelled him into a producing career in the 80s. He was the executive director of Chamber Ballet U.S.A. from its inception until its demise and produced its debut season at City Center, several subsequent engagements at New York City venues, and all its national tours during its five year existence.

The drama of HIV disease in his own life, which included the loss of his soul mate of 20 years, enabled him to quell overpowering and persistent internal critical voices. After being off-stage for 15 years, at the invitation and totally unselfish generosity of teacher/performer Janie Brendel, and as a means of coping with life-threatening disease and grief, he resumed the study of dance. It is Ms. Brendel's singular gift during a difficult time that Mr. Daniels credits for his continued presence on the planet. The Day without Art Remember Project produced by Dancers Responding to Aids in December 95 marked his return to the stage.

Wherever and whenever it is performed, his solo program will benefit agencies providing direct services to people with advanced HIV disease. These performances are dedicated to honor all those coping with catastrophic and life-changing illness and in memory of those lovers, friends and strangers whose opportunities were prematurely ended. It is also meant to show the world one face of HIV; one voice that says all will not die, life can still be lived, dreams can still be realized.
