Action Pistol Range

Action Pistol RangeThe AAF&G Action Pistol Program was initiated in the fall of 1995. The Action Pistol Committee maintains the Action Pistol Range and coordaintes the Action Pistol Events which are held on a periodoc basis throughout the year. Adjacent to the Action Pistol Range is a plinking range for informal shooting and plinking.

In addition to action pistol events, the range is shared by our famous (or infamous) Mill Creek Wranglers cowboy action shooters.

The use of the Action Pistol Range is restricted to club members and their guests only, except for club sponsored sanctioned events, such as the Action Pistol Shoots, which are announced here on our home page as well as in our newsletter.

Our Action Pistol Shoots utilize the format and the rules of IPSC, the International Practical Shooting Confederation, and the USPSA, the United States Practical Shooting Association, which is the IPSC sanctioning body in the U. S. For the uninitiated, IPSC shooting involves scenarios or "problems" which must be "solved" by the shooter. The shooter moves through the scenario with their handgun and engages targets as they become visible or in a certain order as the course description may designate. The shooter frequently engages the targets from behind walls or through simulated windows or doorways. Black Powder Action pistol Safety is of paramount importance and these Action Pistol Shoots are closely supervised by experienced range personnel. Each shooter is accompanied by a Range Safety Officer as they make their way through the course.

Although IPSC is a competitive sport, our Action Pistol Shoots are not competitive events, but are purely recreational in nature. We utilize course designs which challenge the best of shooters, while still allowing beginning shooters an enjoyable experience as well. We are especially interested in attracting new shooters to the sport, and we gear our program to eliminate the apprehensions that novice shooters have about trying the sport. Fees for these events are $2.00 per round, (one run through the course), or $8.00 per day for all you can shoot. The minimum caliber required for these shoots is .38 Special/9mm. No magnum calibers are permitted.
