CAPE TOWN / KALAHARI DESERT

A combination of the wild life of the city and the wildlife of the African bush  – the vast expanses of the red Kalahari Desert and its abundant wildlife.

DATES             Wed. 31 Jan. to Mon. 12 Feb.;  Tues. 13 to Sun. 25 Mar.; Sat. 14 to Thurs. 26 Jul.

Day 1                Cape Town. As per Day 1 above. BB

Day 2               Cape Town. As per Day 2 above. BB.

Day 3               Travel up the semi-desert west coast, through the Olifants River valley and Namaqualand regions, to the copper-mining town of Springbok. Guesthouse. DBB.

Day 4               West to Upington, on the mighty Gariep (Orange) River, and the spectacular Augrabies Falls National Park. Afternoon hike / game drive. Chalet accommodation. DBB.

Day 5               Further north into the wilderness of the Kalahari Desert – to South Africa’s most remote game reserve, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Chalet accommodation at the Twee Rivieren restcamp. DBB.

 

Days 6 & 7            Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. To the smaller Nossob Camp. Game drives – especially in quest of the “big cats” - leopard, lion and cheetah – for which the park is famed. Chalet accommodation. DBB.

Day 8               Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Back to the Twee Rivieren Camp, game-viewing en route. Chalet accommodation. DBB.

Day 9               Travel south again to the town of Upington. Optional afternoon river rafting on the Gariep – or cellar tour and tasting at the country’s most northerly wine estate. Guesthouse accommodation. DBB.

Day 10              Through the Great Karoo semi-desert region to the Namaqualand village of Vanrhynsdorp. Guest farm accommodation. DBB.

Day 11              Return to Cape Town. Afternoon at leisure. BB.

Day 12              Cape Town. At leisure. BB.

Day 13              Airport transfer for return flights.
