Greetings one and all!

Well, day 1 went off without so much as the slightest hitch! Strange that!! But what an early start it was - us up at 05:45 to get to Johannesburg at 06:50! South African Airways was on time - AGAIN! S**t (censored so as not to offend the webmonsters delicate ears)!! Spotted Carl and Vicky's red backpack eventually - after agonising over about 6 others.... Fortunately they had checked our pics on the website.

First stop at Waterval Boven (Waterfall Top) in Mpumulanga Province (hmm, have to get C&V to memorise the 9 SA provinces!) for a quick walk to the Eland Falls (pic 1) after having fought off the myriad of shady characters wanting to show us throught the railway tunnel, watch our car, wash our car, paint our car - you name it. C&V used virtually a whole spool of film within the first 10 minutes!

After lunch at the Mac Mac Pools it was curio-buying time (pic 2). God, this on day one - imagine what the back of the car will look like when we get through the trip!

Lisbon Falls

Pic. 3 - Lisbon Falls in dry season!

Dropped Jeremy off in the town of Graskop (Grass Hill) on the edge of the precipice or escarpment overlooking the Lowveld - AND the Kruger Park!!! The 3 of us popped off to see the magnificent Lisbon Falls (pic 3) - spectacular even in dry season! En route back to town almost missed J strolling contentedly along the road to nowhere.
Checked in at Panorama Rest Camp - unbelievable setting RIGHT on the edge of the escarpment! After settling in and spending a good deal of time in awe of the view, we headed back into town to watch SAfrica being beaten by Australia in the World Cup cricket - and to play numerous games of pool, then a quick little dinner (V says it was the best fish she's eaten!) and a nightcap under the unbelievably clear, star-laden sky.
Early-ish to bed to be up in time for sunrise! (Pic 4). And now it's off to Kruger!!! Sunrise

Pic. 4 - What a sunrise
