WED 16 JUNE

(Youth day - 13th anniversary of the June '76 Soweto uprising)

Early rise and walk along the Sabie River in front of the Skukuza camp (pic. 1) - then a slow, back-roads drive south through the park to Berg-en-dal camp. Sightings included : giraffe (at the carcass of the one we saw yesterday - a mate?); a massive herd of elephant, mothers and babies (pic. 2); zebra; kudu (pic 3); wildebeest; African Fish Eagle; Snake Eagle. Sightings did NOT include a picnic site which was supposed to occur en route - hence arrived at Berg-en-dal utterly starving at 13h30! (Brunch was going to be a happy event on the road!)

Pitched camp - then an evening game drive which offered 3 white rhino and an elephant at a waterhole - no pictures as Steve left the digital camera back at camp! A potjie (cast iron pot) chicken curry and a number of rum and cokes rounded off the day.
