When we left Egypt, we did not go empty handed, but took gold, silver, and clothing from Egyptian neighbors (see Exodus 3:21-22, 11:2, and 12:35-6). I have seen mentioned in two places a stele, a carved stone, called the Elephantine Stele. While I am unable to find the second source (one of the archeology magazines I have, I think) at this writting. I did locate a bit about it in Exodus: The Egyptian Evidence, Ernest S. Frerichs and Leondard H. Lesko, eds. Pn page 22, Abraham Malamat notes that the stele has a group of Asiatics listed as conspiring in a revolt attempt with native Egyptians. The Egyptians bribed the Asiatics to participate with gold and silver and copper, but the government at the time foils the plan and drives the now richer Asiatics out of Egypt.
