How to connect to TalkCity IRC

Using EZTalk:

TalkCity's EZTalk lite or pro requires a browser and the ability to use Java scripts or WebTV. The new beta EZTalk web version only requires that you have a web browser.

Activating Java in Netscape: (webTV users and those wanting to use the Beta web version skip this step) If you do not have Java turned on currently, in Netscape Communicator, go to the Edit menu, drag down to prefereces and let go. A dialog box will pop up. click on the word "Advanced". This gives you some options in the right side of the dialog box. If there is no check mark in the option "Enable Java Script" click in the empty box next to those words. Do the same thing with the box next to "Enable Java" and then click on "OK". The dialog box closes and Java is now enabled.

Chatting with EZTalk:

COMPUTER USERS:

• Click on the link above labled "TalkCity's EZTalk". This takes you to TalkCity's main page.
• Click on the word "Chat" on the blue bar below the TalkCity logo
• A new page will load, in the blanks there, type your nickname, and in "Other Room" type which of the rooms you want to enter (for example #JewishStudies, #IsraeliCafe, or #Spirituality-Bnai-Noach)
• Choose whether you want to use EZTalk lite, EZTalk pro, or EZTalk web (beta) and click in the circle in front or your choice.
• Type your real name if you want to, it is not required
• Click on enter room. The room will load and you can start chatting!

  WEBTV USERS:

• Highlight the link above labled "TalkCity's EZTalk" with your yellow highlight box
• Click return
• Use the down arrow key to select "Chat" from the blue bar below the TalkCity logo
• Click return
• The options are in blue on the left column. If the room is scheduled, you can find it on the list on the right, otherwise choose "Join" from the left column and type in the name of the room you wish to join (#Spirituality-JewishStudies, #IsraeliCafe, or #Spirituality-Bnai-Noach) and hit return.
• The room should load and you can begin chatting

Pirch

TC Pirch is an IRC client that works with IE currently. You need to be connected to the internet, and have Internet Explorer. WebTV users cannot use this option.

Download the software by going to the link labled TC Pirch in the paragraph above and click on the download option. When it has finished downloading, install the program by double clicking on the .exe file you just downloaded. It will install itself.

Once it is installed, activate the program and click on "Login". A dialog box pops up.

The first time you connect, you will have to enter some information. This information will be saved so you do not have to do this every time you use it. In the box where it says "Servers" type morechat.talkcity.com:7000 (or chat.talkcity.com:6667 for #IsraeliCafe) Ener a nickname and an alternate. Click on "Save Profile" and then "OK". Now click on connect and connect again. This will log you in to TalkCity. Once you are there, type /join #roomname and press enter to join the room of your choice. I suggest #Spirituality-JewishStudies or #IsraeliCafe.

If you have connected to TalkCity before, after you click on "login" click connect, connect again. This will log you in to TalkCity. Once you are there, ype /join #roomname and press enter to join the room of your choice. I suggest #Spirituality-JewishStudies or #IsraeliCafe.
