QUALNOZ. On SD 2396.0130 the QUALNOZ disappeared while surveying a
Class 15 Nebula in the Hitgsa Sector (Gamma Quadrant). The ship
reappeared in late 2396 through the Ba-lorgar wormhole. The crew had
no idea that they had been missing for ten months. The crew were taken
to Rentar Prime Presidential Fleet HQ and debriefed. It was discovered
that they had actually been subjected to numerous experiments by
Dominion scientists. The main experiment was DNA splicing, they had
worked on a splice level of enzyme 231, the factor in a Rentarian that
controlled their tempers. This had been removed and they resembled the
temperament of the ancient Klingons.

BACKGROUND TO THE RENTARIANS:
Evolutionary Background - The Rentarian system is five light years
from the Gamma Quadrant entrance to the Ba-lorgar Wormhole. The system
consists of 12 planets revolving around a binary star (a Red Giant and
a White Dwarf). All of the planets are populated with colonists that
originated from the fourth planet form the stars. This planet is named
Rentar Prime. The Rentarians have quite a similar evolution to the
Vulcan Race. During the very early millennia, the habitants of the
planet were of savage, warrior-like beings. Thousands of years later
they discovered the Religion of Opakmu. This led them to the
understanding of peace and friendship, where as the Vulcan's opted for
Logic. Over the years, Rentar Prime's surface area started warming up
quite considerably, due to the ozone layer disappearing (just like
Twentieth Century Earth). The population adapted to the warming by
shedding their hair, they now have no body hair at all, except for the
bushy sideburns. They have also developed many more sweat glands which
produce a sweet honey-smell. This operates like pheromones. It
attracts the opposite sex and every Rentarian has their own differing
smell. To cope with the bright light their eyes evolved into a totally
red stare and they developed a black retracting membrane to block out
the UV rays. The Rentarian gestation period is 15 months. A Rentarian
is born like any other normal infant, but within six weeks is a fully-
grown adult. They also have the mental age of la 16 year-old when
born, because while in the womb of the mother the embryo has the
ability to sense the feeling and pick up the senses of its host. This
means that when born the infant Rentarian can talk and understand the
former host/parent. Rentarians are known for their loyalty. Their ways
of understanding difficult situations helps them in battle, even
thought they will go out of their way to resolve any potentially
violent problems in a peaceful way.
