Been an interesting week leading up to the holiday….2 or 3 months ago I bought a pair of gold shoes at Nordstrom. They cost more than I usually pay, but I love clear vinyl shoes and these were a great combination of gold, clear vinyl, and rhinestone decorations.
These are the shoes
During the week I went to a Christmas Party I go to every year on Beacon Hill. My party going partners, Alice and Jane, picked me up. When we got out of the car I saw Alice had the same shoes! First time this has ever happened.
She also has some spectacular gold hosiery on as well
It was a nice party, lots of overdressed women, and the hosts ask for a donation as you leave to give to charity.
Then the very next night Sadie, the woman who used to run Eva Devito’s Corset shop, called! She was near my home and wanted to meet for a coffee. It was so nice to see her and she is still going strong at 80 something
She surprised me though, when she told me I was the only CD she ever let come in dressed. When I first called her to see if I could shop there, she made it clear I could but not while dressed, so I never even asked.
But one Saturday she called me at 2:30 to tell me two girdles she was altering for me were ready. She asked if I wanted to come and get them. I had been out shopping en femme, and told her that I would love to but that I was dressed.
Sadie told me to come anyway. I think she was surprised when I arrived, not only because I looked OK, but that I was in fact wearing a girdles and stockings. I remember exactly was there were too—a Smoothie 1521 and a goddess longline bra. I went into the dressing room to try on the girdles and she stuck her head in as she often did and saw me in girdle, stockings and longline.
She told me then I could come dressed any time, and I did!
To me, there is no experience or sensation quite like having someone fit you for foundations. It is heavenly!
One time I asked her what perfume she was wearing. It was Amarage by Givenchy. The next time I came en femme I was wearing it. She noticed of course.
Sadie treated me like a lady—like any other good customer. One time I went in and she had another customer. I told her I could come back and she said “nonsense”. I miss her as much as the shop.
Finally Maxine called before heading back to New York. We had coffee and she gave me a $100 gift card for Sephora. Her divorce is now final, and she got quite a settlement. I hope she is OK though.
