Norway

Although Christiania (Oslo) Football Club ordered bandy equipment from England in the 1880's it wasn't until 1903 that first proper games were played. The first five years bandy was played as the 11-a-side that is played today, but between 1908 and 1928 the Norwegian bandy was played as 7-a-side. Today, elite bandy in Norway is almost exclusively played in the Oslo area, with Stabæk, Mjøndalen, Røa, Solberg and Sarpsborg being some of the leading clubs, but Drafn (Drammen) has the most championships with 19. Norway are along with Russia the only country that has an indoor arena that can be used for bandy, the "Viking ship" in Hamar.

Norway has participated in all World Championships but two when they abstained for political reasons. Apart from silver in 1965 and bronze in 1993 and two fifth placings (1995 & 1997), Norway has consistently been the number four in the bandy hierarchy. During the Olympic Games in Oslo 1952 Bandy was an exhibition sport.
