Snapping fibers of cocoon

Blinding brilliance of high noon

Wings unfolding, spreading, dry

Coast is clear, my darling--FLY!!

Can Christianity penetrate the reality of a teenager's world today? Can the modern youth turn on to Christ's love instead of drugs or violence or apathy? The Happening movement thinks so. It proposes no new type of spirituality, but does provide a method through which one's spirituality may be developed, lived, and shared in fellowship with Christians willing to dedicate their lives to God in an on-going manner.

INSTRUMENT OF RENEWAL

The Happening experience is a powerful instrument of renewal in the Church. Its aim is to concentrate closely on the Person and teachings of Jesus Christ. The Happening gives those who attend the desire to understand and serve the Church. What's more, it provides a means to continue the Christian formation which is just begun in the three-day program.

NOT A RETREAT

A Happening can only be made once in a lifetime; therefore, it is not a substitute for a retreat. During the three days the teachings of Christ are discussed in a feeling of joy and happiness with many singing and informal sessions. The Happening makes succeeding retreats more profitable to everyone. Happeners are encouraged to make regular retreats.

STAFF

Happening is basically put on by teenagers. The few adults present will be cooks, chaperons, or those there to become part of Happening too. Two priests will be there as Spiritual Directors. Happeners will be fed, housed and challenged the whole time. Everyone is accepted for just who he or she really is by a bunch of people who aren't afraid to be themselves.

FORMAT

Registrants arrive at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. After cabin assignments, introductions and ground rules, the weekend theme develops with the keynote address "Please Listen". Followed by the Reality talk The changing nature of material and social reality is compared with the permanent nature of Spiritual Reality - a firm foundation on which teens can build secure lives.

Spiritual REALITY is found through FAITH in JESUS CHRIST with the need for RECONCILIATION with God, and those we love and care for, lived in a relationship of PRAYER nourished by the CHURCH. The theme closes with a talk on the application of Spiritual Reality in the real WORLD and finally the APOSTOLATE talk calling for the teenagers to make a friend, be a friend and bring a friend to Christ.

Included in the schedule are small group discussions of each talk, songs, games, and fun. The Happening ends with a closing Eucharist. After packing and good byes, the new Happeners leave the Happening

You will never be asked to do or say anything embarrassing or against your principles. You will meet some neat friends who are looking for answers to the same problems you face in school, family, dating and in everyday life. You will find what their answers are and may find some answers for yourself!

So come and SIT BACK, RELAX, AND LET IT HAPPEN!

Bloom where you are Planted!
