Interview With A Jedi...

Realization

"I was so young and naive. If I had only known what Qui Gon kept from me. But I was, as he claimed, headstrong. I practiced for the trials and studied even harder to perceive and harness the living Force around me. And, though I was hurt and troubled by Qui Gon's decision regarding the boy, I stood by his side. Despite the tensions wrought by troubled times and guarded secrets, I could not let him stand alone. We were, all of us, locked together in purpose." Mulder's tape recorder had long since run out of tape and his pencil was poised, unmoving, above a nearly blank notepad. The Jedi seemed haunted by his past yet his story was seductive and Mulder wanted more.

"Then unthinkable tragedy struck. In a climate of political backstabbing and bureaucratic trivialities, the Sith returned. And with the Sith came both death and understanding. It's ironic how we must pay for knowledge in life. I had thirsted for Qui Gon's secrets but, when I finally had them, I would have given my life's blood to prevent the means of their revelation. My master, my most beloved friend, lay dying at the feet of Darth Maul, an evil Sith lord who swept chaos before him like a wave crashing on the shore. First with anger, then calm purpose, I struck down Qui Gon's assassin but no power or force could bring back my friend from the abyss he was slipping into. As I held him dying in my arms, he used his last breath to explain everything and extract a promise from me to carry out his work."
