TALBOT HAS BUD's NUMBER
DEITRICH has now lost twice in the last 18 games. Both times to TALBOT.
As you recall, TALBOT's 69-48 win in week 16 was one of the greatest games
in league history. It stopped BUD cold after 14 straight wins. This year, BUD,
undefeated again, albeit after only two games, is stopped by TALBOT 48-42. Taking a
closer look, TALBOT's victory is remarkable. In this day and age, the league
is plugged into the internet, and more information is available to the teams
than ever before. Injury decisions have been simplified, and there are
virtually no "sleepers" worth plucking out of the free agent ranks. In this
day of total access, everyone is in the know, everyone that is, except TALBOT.
Conventional wisdom dictated that he replace the NYJ Qbs with PHI. After all,
they scored 58 points the last time they played Detroit. Talbot went along
with that. But how do you figure that he would start the 4th WR of one of the
worst teams in the league on the road against Miami? Talbot started him and
Webster Slaughter scored the points that made the difference in his game with
BUD. Considering the this league always follows the winner, this could be
my last update as the league goes "unplugged".
More to Green Bay Than Favre
MOSAKOWSKI may have won the battle of Green Bay 24-23, but BEST won the game
55-43. MOS got his usual from Favre, but BEST matched him with 6 from
Antonio Freeman and 17 from the Green Bay Defense, newly picked up this week.
It was a breakout week for BEST after 2 straight losses, and an unlikely one
with 4 starters on a bye week.
CZ in a squeaker
CZ was complaining about the new rules on Monday. Deion Sanders fumble recovery
TD occurred as a defensive TD, and therefore not eligible to be recorded as
a TD for CZ who started him as a WR. That aside, CZ was helped by some recent
rulings in his 43-42 win over STROUPE. One was the NFL's two point conversion
that gave PLAYER OF THE WEEK Curtis Martin a total of 21, and the other, most
dramtically, gave him a bonus when Steve Christie kicked a 45 yard field
goal in the second half of Monday's game.
Other Monday Comeback Tries Fall Short
WALLACE had a head of steam going into halftime when Jerome Bettis had two of
three needed scores, but that was it as he fell to BARRY 41-37. BARRY gets of the
snide relatively early this year. RICKER's herd of Buffalo was penned up in
Pittsburgh, as GATES held on for a 30-16 win despite losing a lot to the
NFC West bye. Outlaw, playing in pain this week with starters Salaam and
Vanover hurt, whipped up on JONES/KLINGMAN 42-21. And how ugly is this:
JACKSON 25-18 over PEIL. MOS, BUD and especially STROUPE would have liked to
have had Calvin this week. 42/43 points should give you a win in this league.
25 should have you searching the waiver wires for help.
