  • Talbot 11 Mosakowski 7
  • Gates 39 Barry 38
  • Wallace 56 Czupryna 40

You Bettis, You Bettis, You Bet!

 *
CZ was feeling frisky after knocking off Mosakowski and Jackson in successive weeks, but his try for a third straight upset was denied by Wallace 56-40. Jerome Bettis scored and recorded a 100 yard game.

New Look Jackson Scaring Opponents

In a matter of weeks, Jackson has turned his team around. Not that he was doing that badly at first... He seemed to be catching all his opponents at the right week, but that luck wasn't going to hold out much longer. Then came "the trade". Jackson traded Talbot MIN QB, Jake Reed and Aaron Craver for essentially Terry Allen. Other throw ins allowed Jackson to pick up BAL QB. Vinny seemed to be everyones bye week QB. Drafted by Best, he used them week 3 and then cut them. Then Ricker borrowed them, and then Stroupe. Finally Jackson picked them. An GET THIS: they now LEAD THE LEAGUE with 132 points. That's right more than Brett Favre. Now what to do with that "deadwood" Jerry Rice and Herman Moore...

Rome wasn't built in a day, and Terry Allen wasn't traded in a week. Last week Jackson could have used his three TDS when he scored 53 points and recorded the second highest losing score in BRFL history. This week Allen turned his hat trick again, but in JACKSON colors and Calvin recorded a 68-33 victory over RICKER. Ricker seems to be having problems chosing which backs to start, but he did record his highest total of the year.

Gates In Another One Point Game

GATES has played four games with a total point differential of three points. He is 2-1-1. He only has a two point difference between this season points scored and allowed. This week he nipped BARRY 39-38. Key to GATES lately has been the production of DALLAS QBs. Drafted behind Atlanta QBs, Dallas' emergence has coincided with the trouble with the Atlanta QB situation. As an added bonus, Michael Irvin has returned. For Barry, another tough loss. He is 3-6 despite being third in the league in scoring.

BUD v Outlaw: What a Difference a Year Makes

At this time last year, the DEITRICH v OUTLAW was a huge game: no 1 v no 2. At the end of that game, a 31-29 BUD win, the teams were a combined 15-3. In 1996, it is another story. Outlaw was a 37-24 winner this time around, and the teams are a combined 7-10-1. Emmitt Smith, Bud's stud a year ago, is now on Outlaw's team and he had his usual productive game. More bad news for BUD, as Robert Smith suffers his annual injury.

Third Stringer, Bad Call Help Best Beat Peil

Third String SF QB Jeff Brohm passed for a late TD, and Issac Bruce has a '95 flashback with a 1 TD 227 yard game. Best, who has scored in the 60's three of the last five games, only managed an amemic 25 points. Peil however, managed only 18, but it should have been more. Dallas' D picked up a fumble and would have appeared to have scored on a long run, but the refs ruled it an incomplete pass. The result was an 8 point swing.

Post-Allen era OK so far for Talbot

Terry Allen is gone, but not forgotten. His 19 points would have been about half Talbot's points this week. However he did not need Allen in a win over Moskowski 21-7 - a real football score. Trends seem to be looking up for Talbot. Season long holdout Errict Rhett returned and Minnesota's QBs look like they might could start putting up the numbers they did for Talbot in 1995. Last season, the Vikes relied heavily on the pass after Robert Smith got injured.

Mosakowski averaged 18 pts from his QB a game in the first 7 games of the season. This was the second week in a row, first with Favre, that he failed to get a QB score.

Wallace stomps Upset minded CZ

First place WALLACE defeated CZUPRYNA 56-40. CZ was bidding for his third straight update of a top team. It was CZ's victories over Moskowski and Jackson the last two weeks that contributed to Wallace working his way to the top.

No More Mystery Mondays for Stroupe

Jones/Klingman recieved no bad news in a note or phone mail on Monday, unlike Stroupe's last two opponents who were surprised to find out they had lost when the finally tracked down the vacationing Stroupe's lineup. There were no "timely special reserves" or no surprises from deep on the depth chart. This time the cupboard was bare for a 32-15 win over his heated rival. This marks only the second time JK had beaten Stroupe in the long rivalry. The last time was in 1994 when Jones was in Russia and could not rub it in. (see Week 12, 1994)
