Wallace Wins Regular Season
Wallace has won his first regular season title. He won for the second straight
week over a former roommate, this time Outlaw, 33-25. Wallace was lucky he
wasn't haunted by Smiths. One Lamar, on his bench with 7 points, the other
Emmitt, always a threat to score twice. It is ironic that Wallace, whose motto
used to be "wait for the playoffs" would win a regular season honor. However,
the BRFL has seen fit to make the title meaningful. A banner can now be
hoisted in Wallace's office, ala another Smith, Dean, who likes to raise
regular season banners.
Bye an Early Birthday Gift for Jackson
On Thanksgiving Day, Jackson can stuff himself with turkey and birthday cake
and snooze with the games on TV. He has nothing at stake week 14 and therefore
his dreaded "birthday jinx" will not ruin his playoff plans. He wrapped up
a second place bye with a 48-16 win over Jones/Klingman. Those slackers,
first round picks Jerry Rice and Herman Moore, finally scored and Baltimore
QBs racked up their usual. Only Terry Allen was conspicuously absent from
the end zone. JK scored only 16 points, but that is enough to continue
to lead a pack of "basement bums" tied for 11th. Points is currently a
deciding factor in the three way tie between JK, BUD and Ricker.
Talbot kicks CZ in Family Feud
Talbot was the winner in the annual "family feud" game with his father-in-law,
Czupryna. Chris Bonial scored 23 points setting a new BRFL record for a
kicker - a record that was set this year by Peil's Jeff Wilkins and later
matched by CZ's Steve Christie when each had scored 22 points. There are
not as many lethal combos in the league this year, but MIN QB to Jake Reed
seems to be working for Talbot lately. Talbot needs to win this week or have
Best, Mosakowski and Gates lose or tie to hold on to third place.
Davis Helps BEST make quick work of BUD
Terrell Davis scored his third TD barely 19 minutes into the DEN/NE game to
allow BEST to put away DEITRICH early in his 46-13 win. Davis had 21 points for
his season high game. Best had been struggling, losing two straight and money
slots to Stroupe and Talbot. He had also gone 9 games without a win in
November. BUD would have to win out to prevent his first losing season in
his three year BFRL career.
Gates sends Peil to the Basement
Gates started both 49'er backs and it paid off as they both scored. He smartly
switched back to Atlanta for this week and they scored twice. Gates is lurking
just outside the money slots and could claim one if either Best or Mosakowski
lose this week provided Gates beats Talbot. Peil has fallen to 14th place,
where he finished in 1994. However he has to be respected in week 14 due
to his Detroit double combo and the fact that the Lions usually pour it
on thanksgiving.
Is it Barry over Adam?
In the annual confusing first name/last name battle between Barry and
Mosakowski, the only names you needed to remember were Drew and Brett.
However, this battle of newly emerged superstar QBs was a big disappointment.
Brett outscored Drew 6-2 and that help hold the score to MOS 26 Barry 15.
Barry is a Jeckle and Hyde team who's weekly scored fluctuate wildly.
His playoff opponent has to be wondering if Dr Jeckle and his 15 points will
show up, or maybe Mr Hyde with 90.
Ricker over Stroupe
The battle of the guys with too many backs for their own good was won by
Ricker, who has the better backs. Ricker is suddenly "hotter than IBM stock".
Not only that, got a pleasant surprise when his bench warmer Andre Rison was
cut by the Jags and picked up by the reciever-starved but potent Packers.
