Best's reign of terror is over. After five weeks, dark horse Mosakowski takes over the top spot with a 4-1 record and tiebreaker over second place Talbot. After losing in week 1, MOS has quietly put together a four game winning streak. While other teams have rung up flashy blowouts, the total spread on MOS four wins is 26 points. Included in that run is a weak 26-19 win over Talbot which gives MOS his tiebreaker.

36 GTS: Det QB 6, BSanders 2, NKauffman 8, JLewis 6, JReed 7, EMurray 4, MIN D 3

Brett Favre threw only one TD. It looked like certain doom for JK, until old man Marcus Allen came to the rescue with two TDs. Sunday night, he held off Gates' Viking trio to hold onto a one point victory.

57 BUD BAL Q 8, TMartin 21, RMoore 7, DAL D 13, PStoyanovich (SR) 8
35 BST DAL Q 12, CCarter 6, MIrvin 7, RCunningham 6, SF D 3

Last season, Tony Martin scored 14 TDs for Best. Until week 5, Deitrich had to be wondering if his second round pick was a one season wonder. Well, those worries were unfounded. All it took for Martin to get on track was a game against his former owner... His 21 points matched the season high for a WR this season (TBrown wk 1). Best started four Dallas players this week, but BUD had the play that was the Cowboy highlight for this week: Deion Sanders' 83 yard punt return.

61 WAL PIT Q 18, RSmith 13, CPickens 7, SSharpe 8, MHollis 13, STL D 2
10 CJ TAllen 2, DLevens 1, SBlanton 6, NYJ D 1

Wallace finally got a solid game from Kordell Stewart, Robert Smith had his first two TD game, and Mike Hollis made the most of Jacksonville's red zone problems - effectively neutralizing Jackson's QB. Woe is Jackson. Still numb after a 59 point beating the week before, he suffers a 51 point set back this week. We could research it, but there probably hasn't ever been a two, or even a four game stretch as bad what Jackson has been through...

26 BR DEN Q 18, JAnderson 7, Elam 1
3 BAR Pelphrey 2, Phil D 1

Last week we had a 80 and 74, this week, the opposite extreme: 10 and 3... Barry's 3 is the lowest score recorded in 4 years. You have to go back to 1993 week 3, when a shutout and a 2 were recorded. Ricker was the beneficary of that shutout. Barry could have won.. had he started his Carolina QB and Carruth combo. I guess he didn't want to wait for Monday night.

Interesting note. We almost had a league first... Ricker's kicker Jason Elam was injured in this game, and the emergency kicker was John Elway, Ricker's QB. Rather than kick the PATs or field goals, Denver opted to go for two and go for it on fourth down, sparing us the dilemma of how to score the situation. BRFL rules do not cover QB's scoring on kicks. How would a BRFL of 1970 handled George Blanda?

44 STP WAS Q 18, TDavis 10, KJohnson 7, Husted 1, DEN D 1 Hearst 8
27 CZ NYJ Q 18, JHall 7, NO D 2

Stroupe is out of the cellar! After weeks of outscoring at least half of the BRFL teams each week, he finally was matched up with an opponent he could outscore. CZ, depleted due to the AFC East bye, would love to be playing in one of those leagues that use a bye week carryover and save some of those guys that netted him 80 last week.

48 MOS SF Q 12 RDudley 13, Stover 10, Murrell 8, MJackson 2, Seattle D 3
43 DP Oak Q 24, RHarris 1, RBrooks 2, JJett 12, CFord 3, CIN D 1

The game that decided first place came down to Monday night, but was over early as Steve Young got the necessary two TDs in the first quarter and Mos came from 7 down to win. Losing in the 40's is nothing new to Peil, as that has happened to him four times since 1992.

One amaxing thing about this game was the fact that both guys started Oakland receivers, James Jett and Ricky Dudley. Players that have had limited success, and are notorious for dropping passes. Jeff George's emergence has changed that.

53 TAL MIN Q 18, HMoore 1, DScott 6, Galloway 6, AMiller 6, NYG D 5, GAnderson 11
30 OUT CIN D 12, BEmmanuel 6, OAK D 3, JKasey 3, TKirby 6

Talbot did his part to make his move on the number 1 spot by scoring 53 to pass Peil in points. One problem, Peil lost and Mos won. Even though Talbot has out scored MOS by almost seven points a game, it was a week where MOS outscored TALBOT by 7, their game in week 2, that keeps Talbot in second.

Talbot's back to back big week was big, but not that big. Here are the all time leaders.

Week 6 Preview: Time for "Mr October"

Ah, October that rare time of the year when both Bam Morris and Robert Smith are in uniform. It is also the time of year for baseball postseason, when baseball replaces football as the sport of the moment. (cough...well it used to at least). Back in those days, a World Series hero by the name of Reggie Jackson became known as "Mr October". In the BRFL we have a Jackson, CALVIN Jackson, and he has a bit of a reputation as a "Mr October" - He's 14-6 over the last five years in the month of October. It is when he recovers from a disasterous start and reclaims his rightful place among the league elite. Will he do it again?
