Week 9: The Old Man and the CZ | ||
![]() |
The fact that Warren Moon is nearly 41 years old, does not impress CZ. However, the fact that he accounted for a BRFL Season high 32 points does. His 32 surpasses by one the totals posted by the Stewarts, Kordell and James, in earlier games this season. From a BRFL perspective, Moon's total surpasses his total recorded in Week 15 1990, when he had four TDs and 500 plus yards. If you know your BRFL history, Jackson inexplicably sat Moon in what was then a BRFL wild card game. Jackson, who is also nearly 41 years old, aged several years that day. |

Game of the Week | |||
MATCHUP | WHY TO WATCH | WHO TO WATCH | JOE THEISMANN'S ANALYSIS |
Jones/Klingman(6-3) vs Talbot(6-3) Talbot by 1 1/2 |
Because the winner of this game will have an inside track at a bye. Because Jones Klingman has a history of choking against Talbot, losing to him 3 times in week 14. | Herman Moore - is overdue for a huge game.
Warrick Dunn has potential for a huge game against the Colts. |
J/K game plan: Hope The Favre lights up
the Lions in a revenge game.
Talbots game plan: Get his backfield moving. Alstott and Faulk (who face each other) have scored since week 6. Pivotal player: Brad Johnson. Can he step up against the Pats with Robert Smith injured. |

Peil (5-4) vs Stroupe (4-5) Peil by 3 |
Because Stroupe is the hottest team in the BRFL 4-1 after an 0-4 start. Because this game features the top BRFL backs: Terrell Davis and Raymont Harris. | Davis and Harris. James Jett, who has 8 touchdowns and Tim Brown, who is getting his thunder stolen by Jett. | Peil's game plan: Hope that Oakland
can play well on the road against the Panthers who are improving.
Stroupe's game plan: Terrell Davis's usual solid game plus a good
games from Hearst, Walker, Fryar and Glenn. QB points are nice, but not
required.
Pivotal player: Jeff George. If he can solve the Panther D, look out. |
Wallace(4-5) vs Deitrich(5-4) Deitrich by 4 |
Because Robert Smith is right on schedule with his annual injury and Wallace is riddled with injuries. Because BUD will try and rub it in with Smith's replacement, Leroy Hoard. To see if Kordell Stewart will steal more TDs from Jerome Bettis. | Kordell Stewart. Wallace's QB was in BUD's stable the last two years. Vinny: can he get into a shootout versus the Jets. | Deitrich's game plan: Counter Stewart with the BUS. Hope that Vinny gets behind and has to throw.
Wallace's game plan: Pray. Pivotal player:Hoard. If he has a big game, Smith won't be rushed back from injury. |

Gates (5-4) vs Barry (4-5) Gates by 9 1/2 |
To see if Gates' reliance on the Lions will be fatal down the stretch as Detroit faces tough schedule. To see which improving (but not great) QB Barry lines up with this week. | Barry Sanders may have a big game against struggling Packer run D. Ditto Napolean Kauffman vs the Panthers. Ed McCaffery could be a factor if Broncos get into shootout | Gates game plan: Keep it close, so Sanders is always a threat to rescue him Sunday night.
Barry's game plan: Choose the right QB (Carolina or KC) and hope that KAJ or Watters can score more than once. Pivotal player:Andre Rison. (If Barry's decides to go with KC). |
Czupryna (3-6) vs Mosakowski (7-2) Even |
To see if Mosakowski is still lucky. Note that this game is rated EVEN with 12th place Czupryna. To see if Warren Moon can continue is hot streak. To see if MOS SF QBs will dance on Dallas' grave. | Warren Moon. What does he do for an encore vs Denver. Adrian Murrell: Potential for a bug game versus the Raven - if he doesn't give his TDs away. JJ Stokes: If Deion is covering Owens, JJ Stokes might be the goto guy. | CZ's game plan: Get Moon some help. His backfield of Martin and A Smith has gotten very quiet.
Mos' game plan: Hope CZ scores in the teens. Pivotal player: Curtis Martin. New England's focus will be to reestablish him as threat; let him carry the ball from the one. |

Ricker (3-6) vs Best (4-5) Best by 10 |
Because Best's downward spiral from a 3-0 start holds a morbid fasination. To see if Ricker starts any injured or snowbound players. | Tim Biakabutuka: had a huge game last week. Best starts him this week hoping to that he'll carry Emmitt's load. Gary Brown: to see cross the goal line rather than settle for field goals. | Ricker's game plan: Be his usual thorn in Best side.
Best's game plan: Hope that Min/NE is a shootout benefiting both teams totals. Pivotal players: John Elway and Rod Smith. If the Broncos take to the air, this combo will decide this game. |
Jackson (3-6) vs Outlaw (3-6) Jackson by 1 |
Because the loser is likely in the cellar. To see if Jackson's comeback is for real. To see any bad blood has built up over Calvin acquiring Jerry Rice, Outlaw's first pick that he cut after what appearred to be a season en ding injury. | Terry Allen: Makes his return after being out a couple weeks. Jeff Blake: who tends to heat up as the weather gets cold. Jackson's WRs: Calvin has revamped his line-up. Interesting to see who he starts. | Jackson's game plan: Establish the big back attack with George, Allen and Levens.
Outlaws game plan: Get a TD from the Oakland D/st. He's 3-0 when they score. 0-6 when they don't.
Pivotal player: |
