Week 16 Preview
(sigh)....It's hard to work up any enthusiasm for "weak 16". It is like the
Colts vs Ravens and the Bears vs Rams for the right to go to the Super Bowl.
The four teams carrying our banner would have been long been put to bed in
other leagues. The idea behind the "socialist BRFL" as Ricker calls it was
not to have four teams with losing regular season records
playing in the money round, but to give one or two dark horses a chance.
The model for this playoff format is the NCAA basketball tournament. It is
exciting to see a unexpected team jell and turn it on. Like Arizona last
year. In our case, we've got four Arizonas.
How did this happen? Parity - can harp on that enough. Going into week 15,
Number 1 seeded Mosakowski was LAST in scoring. It was only a matter of time.
Tough match-ups in week 15
killed JK. Talbot scored 42 in week 14 and lost. Number 4 Bud lost with 48 in
week 15.
Our four finalists? Barry got hot with Kansas City. Because of KC's
surge, Denver isn't letting up like last year and that benefits Ricker.
Gates, far too dependant on Detroit, has seen them score 85 points in weeks
14 and 15. That leaves Wallace - who gets into week 16 the way you usually
get ahead in this league: Luck...
Wallace vs Barry
Can a 14 seed make the finals? Barry has been averaging 55 points in two
weeks. Is he due for a let down? Wallace on the other hand, has been
averaging only a very average 35 a game... Barry by 20? Probably not
this is Wallace. He's famous for cooling off a hot team. This season,
he stopped Stroupe's five game winning streak. Last year Best was averaging
55 a game in the playoffs and Wallace iced him in the Super Bowl.
Every week Wallace has someone step up and have a big week. This week it
is Natrone Means.
Gates vs Ricker
Detroit at Minnesota. This could be a wild one. 5 of Gates players are in
that game. Ricker could cool off: Denver has
a tough Monday match-up in San Francisco. Gates should romp.
A Gates/Wallace Super Bowl? Unreal. Two teams that at least did something
transaction wise this year. Wallace always a playoff overchiever vs Gates
a playoff underachiver.
Rotissiere Report
Best wins week 15 with 60 points. For those that did not submit a lineup, I used
your usual or default line-ups.
